Plagiarism Policy

“Herald of the Azerbaijan Engineering Academy” (“the Journal”) is dedicated to upholding the highest standards of academic integrity and publication ethics. Plagiarism in any form is strictly prohibited and will not be tolerated.

  1. Definition of Plagiarism

Plagiarism includes, but is not limited to:

  • Using another author’s words, ideas, or results without proper attribution;
  • Copying text, figures, or data from previously published works without acknowledgment;
  • Submitting a manuscript that has been published elsewhere in whole or in part;
  • Self-plagiarism (reusing significant portions of one’s own previously published work without citation).
  1. Plagiarism Screening
  • All submitted manuscripts are subject to plagiarism screening using reliable similarity detection software (iThenticate).
  • Editors reserve the right to reject manuscripts with excessive similarity, even if unintentional.
  • A similarity index above 20% (excluding references, quotations, and methodological details) may be considered problematic and will be evaluated case by case.

  1. Editorial Actions in Case of Plagiarism

If plagiarism is detected, the following actions may be taken depending on severity:

  1. Minor Overlap (poor citation/quotation): Authors will be asked to correct and resubmit.
  2. Significant Overlap (sections copied without attribution): Manuscript will be rejected outright.
  3. Severe Plagiarism (full or near-full copying, duplicate submission):
  • Immediate rejection of the manuscript;
  • Notification to the author’s institution and/or funding body;
  • Possible ban from future submissions to the Journal.
  1. Author Responsibilities
  • Authors must ensure that their work is original and properly cite all sources.
  • Authors must disclose if any part of their work has been previously published.
  • It is the responsibility of all co-authors to verify that the final manuscript complies with ethical standards.
  1. Reviewer and Editor Responsibilities
  • Reviewers are encouraged to report any suspected plagiarism to the Editorial Office.
  • Editors are responsible for investigating allegations of plagiarism fairly and confidentially.
  1. Consequences After Publication

If plagiarism is detected after publication:

  • The article may be retracted with a formal notice in the Journal.
  • The academic community and relevant institutions may be informed.
