FOUNDER:   “Azerbaijan Engineering Academy”

Azerbaijan Engineering Academy (AEA) was founded on November 30, 2005. Despite being a young organization, it stands on the shoulders of major engineering innovations in the Oil and Gas Industry that shaped the early 20th century thanks to Baku’s important role in crude oil exploration. Since its establishment, the Azerbaijan Engineering Academy has taken its rightful place in the society by actively participating in the implementation of a number of projects that are important for the development of the country’s economy.

The Academy as an organization has a flag, badge, “Engineering Excellence”, “Engineer of the Year” medals and other attributes.

Currently, the number of full and corresponding members of the Azerbaijan Engineering Academy is 39, of which 21 are academicians, 18 are corresponding members, 1 is an honorary member of the academy, and 4 are foreign members of the academy.

The academy has Chief of staff, several departments and sections managed by members of the academy: Department of Engineering and Innovative Technologies; Department of Engineering Education; Department of Young Engineers and Potential Youth; Department of Energy, Transport and Logistics; Department of Engineering and Environment; Department of Engineering, Food Safety and Agriculture; International Cooperation Department; Department of the Managing Director; Information and Publishing Department; Award Branche.

Our country has gained a positive image for Azerbaijan in front of the world community by organizing and holding large-scale forums, conferences, symposiums, intercultural dialogues and other high-level events in recent years. After a break of half a century, the 74th International Astronautical Congress was recently held in Baku on October 2-6, 2023. About 5,000 representatives from 101 countries and 150 companies participated in the exhibition. Academician Arif Pashayev, president of the Azerbaijan Engineering Academy, is also the chairman of the Space Council.

Since ancient times, trade routes connecting geographically distant parts of the world have passed through Azerbaijan. Thus, due to its strategic position at the intersection of Europe and Asia, Azerbaijan is of vital importance for the country’s economy. The Department of Energy, Transport and Logistics of the Azerbaijan Engineering Academy is actively involved in the development of transit services and logistics, the transformation into an international transport and logistics hub, and the implementation of the Southern Gas Corridor project. The Southern Gas Corridor is becoming an energy bridge between the Caspian region and European markets by diversifying the energy supply to Europe.

In the Department of Engineering and Innovative Technologies, scientists and engineers of the Academy conduct scientific research on the development of new petrochemical technologies and the development of a new composition of corrosion inhibitors for the protection of metal in the formation waters of oil and gas fields containing hydrogen sulfide and carbon dioxide.

The Academy participates in the projects implemented in the Department of Engineering and Environment and in the Department of Engineering, Food Safety and Agriculture to ensure the food safety of the country, the development of drought-resistant agricultural products and water conservation programs in the foothills. In remote mountain regions, buildings are being built to provide drinking water to residents.

In the Department of International Cooperation, the Azerbaijan Engineering Academy continues close cooperation with the International Engineering Academy (IEA) full member and engineering academies of a number of countries – Russia, India, Uzbekistan, Ukraine, Slovenia.

In 2012, the Azerbaijan Engineering Academy was elected a full member of this international institution by the decision of the 25th session of the General Assembly of the Federation of Engineering Institutes of Islamic Countries (FEIIC) held in Almaty, Kazakhstan. This prestigious international organization unites 23 of the 57 Islamic countries in its ranks. At the 25th session of the Executive Committee of that organization, Azerbaijan Engineering Academy was elected one of the 5 members of the Executive Committee of FEIIC.

The Azerbaijan Engineering Academy unanimously approved the World Federation of Engineering Organizations (WFEO) under UNESCO at the Executive Council held on October 13, 2023 and the General Assembly held on October 14, 2023 through secret voting. was elected a full member.

The World Federation of Engineering Organizations (WFEO), the highest body for the engineering profession, was established in 1968 under the auspices of UNESCO and represents more than 100 countries and nearly 30 million engineers.

WFEO is the international voice of engineering, recognized by the United Nations as the leading non-governmental organization in the field of science and technology.

It works closely with United Nations bodies, including UNESCO, to address major global challenges in science and engineering, particularly through the engineering profession to contribute to United Nations Sustainable Development.

In order to coordinate the general affairs of the Academy, the position of Chief of staff was established and is functioning. The Chief of staff coordinates the activities of departments and branches within the structure of the Academy.

Two newly established Department of Engineering Education and Department of Young Engineers and Potential Youth are being launched.

The Awarding Branche – deals with issues of awardees.

The Information Branche organizes public relations.

Branche of Publication is engaged in the publication of journals and other publishing works. Every year, members of our Academy publish dozens of books, monographs, textbooks, teaching aids in well-known foreign publications.

This year, 15 years have passed since the publication of the first issue of the scientific and technical journal “HERALD of the Azerbaijan Engineering Academy”, which has gained a great reputation in the international world. For 15 years, the journal has clearly demonstrated achievements in the field of innovative technologies and defined the vector of their scientific and engineering thinking. The journal publishes articles in three languages: Azerbaijani, English and Russian. The journal is placed in several Impact Factor International Scientific Citation Databases. Published articles are assigned a DOI (Digital Object Identifier).

Thanks to the cooperation of the Azerbaijan Engineering Academy with WFEO and BMA, the achievements of the academy have increased, international cooperation with various countries will develop in the future, the boundaries of the academy will be expanded with other academies, and the integration of engineering ideas into the world community will be accelerated. It is the best platform for leading scientists, engineers and researchers to share their scientific achievements, conduct active discussions and develop technical programs.

All information about the activity of the Engineering Academy is regularly posted on the website of the academy: https://www.ama.com.az/
